Patricia E Thorpe, M.D. Patricia E. Thorpe, M.D., is founder of TigerGear LLC and inventor of the Tiger Tourniquet®, a non-pneumatic tourniquet awarded two patents. Dr. Thorpe’s innovative Tiger Tourniquet was conceived in 1991 and used for over a decade on lower extremity thrombosis patients. Whereas deep vein thrombosis may be of concern to soldiers and doctors in the field, the more immediate danger is on arterial bleeding and uncontrolled hemorrhage. Dr Thorpe solved these problems with a vascular tourniquet designed and patented for directional-flow therapy for limbs with blood clots.
The tourniquet was used on patients at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha where Dr. Thorpe was Chief of Interventional Radiology for 12 years. During 2000-2001 she was a visiting professor at the University of Minnesota and Lenox Hill Cardiovascular Institute in NYC before taking the position of Chief of Interventional Radiology at the University of Iowa.

Now in private practice, she specializes in treating patients with post-thrombotic syndrome and deep vein thrombosis.

In addition to holding patents, Dr. Thorpe has written numerous peer reviewed articles and lectures nationally and internationally on interventional radiology and endovascular surgery. A Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Thorpe holds degrees in anthropology, biology, and medicine.
